4 Facts about CEREC Same-Day Crowns that Can Save Your Tooth
Most damaged teeth don’t need to be extracted. A same-day CEREC crown from the Atlanta Center of Cosmetic Dentistry can save your tooth in a single visit. What should you know about CEREC crowns?
1. CEREC Crowns Use CAD/CAM Technology
CEREC same-day crowns use computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology. A model of your mouth and teeth is uploaded to a computer, and the images are transferred to a milling machine that uses a small ceramic block to make your crown.
2. It Only Takes One Visit
The process of receiving a traditional lab-made crown includes several steps:
- Impressions of your mouth and teeth are taken.
- Impressions and instructions are sent to a dental lab.
- A lab tech makes the crown, and it takes about two weeks.
- During this time, you would wear a temporary crown.
Many people prefer not to wear a temporary crown. Or they might have busy lives and have difficulty returning for a second visit to have the crown placed.
But CEREC a crown is different. You won’t need a temporary crown or a second visit because, at the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, the crown milling machine is in our dental office. The restoration can usually be made in less than an hour.
3. Similar Cost and Longevity as Lab-Made Crowns
People often worry about the longevity and cost of in-office restorations, but they are actually just as durable and last as long as lab-made crowns. Also, dental codes don’t change based on where the restorations are made, so the costs are the same.
4. Not Ideal for Every Situation
Certain conditions can prevent in-office restorations from being a good solution. Some of them include:
- Your bite (the way your upper and lower teeth fit together)
- The position of your teeth
- Your oral health habits
- Certain health issues
Also, you may get more aesthetic results on front teeth by choosing a lab-made porcelain crown.
